Capstak was started as a free site for the commercial real estate professional to connect and engage with their peers and to find deals. But the market for sourcing commercial real estate capital can be extremely opaque. We knew the industry could benefit from a more tailored solution. To fill this void in the capital markets, we launched Capstak Real Estate Services – CRES. With CRES, Capstak is connecting qualified sponsors with trusted commercial real estate advisors to secure new sources of capital and to do more deals.

Today, Capstak Real Estate Services has partnered with a national network of commercial real estate mortgage brokers and investment bankers to structure and place capital for deal sponsors. Our referral partners placed over $4 billion in capital in 2016 alone. Over the past decade this network of independently owned firms has placed over $27 billion in debt and equity financing for hundreds of sponsors. Through CRES, our network is dedicated to delivering superior service and customized solutions for the professional investor and developer.

Meet The Founders


Heather Goldman

CEO + Co-Founder

Based in Reno, Nevada, by way of New York City, Heather has been a commercial real estate financial services and tech executive for more than 20 years. A 1.0 internet pioneer, Heather was Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of CapitalThinking, a leading application software company for the financial services industry, specializing in CRE finance, investment and risk management.

Previous to Capstak, Heather was Managing Director, Global Head of Business Development with Brookfield Investment Management, Managing Partner at Brookfield Financial, SVP - Head of Investor Relations at Starwood Capital, Global Sector Leader - Real Estate at Korn/Ferry International, and a Director in the Real Estate Capital Markets Group at Bank of Montreal. Heather currently also serves as a director/trustee for global fund complexes managed by Brookfield Investment Management. She leads international business development for the Israel Financial Institute.

Heather is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned a BA in International Relations. She holds an MBA from Chicago Booth, the graduate business school of the University of Chicago. Heather served 3 1/2 years in the US Peace Corps, in Mali, West Africa. She currently serves as a Trustee for the Nevada Museum of Art, and as a Board Director for The Gesher Foundation USA.

Michael Schnabel

Co-Founder

Michael has over 25 years of experience in Reno and the Bay Area as an entrepreneurial real estate professional. He has founded and worked in a diverse collection of firms in brokerage, development, investment banking and direct investment.

As CEO of Schnabel Ventures Michael helped found Blackfire Real Estate Investors and Development Arts. Prior to founding Schnabel Ventures, Michael was Senior Managing Director and owner of the CBRE Reno/Lake Tahoe office, Associate at the Wall Street firm of Kidder, Peabody & Co. and an Analyst at Merrill, Lynch & Co. in Washington, DC. Michael currently serves as Board Chair of Schnabel Foundation Company, a national design-build construction company headquartered in Washington, DC. He is an active Angel Investor, with investments across multiple industries.

Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Business Administration from the New York University Stern School of Business.
