EDAWN Continues Entrepreneurial Growth with Startup Fair

EDAWN Startup FairNorthern Nevada's Startup Community

This past Thursday, the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) held the 2016 Biggest Little Startup Fair. Capstak had the opportunity to participate in this event, and help EDAWN continue to drive Reno’s startup community forward. Many people don’t realize that on top of the work EDAWN does to attract existing businesses to the area, they are also an impetus for entrepreneurial growth in Northern Nevada.

EDAWN President and CEO, Mike Kazmierski, highlighted this at Capstak’s launch saying, “The entrepreneurial growth leg - starting companies, growing, helping startups grow - we put a lot of work as a community into the entrepreneurial growth piece.”

As a startup company, having the community’s support was a big reason Capstak chose to headquarter in Reno. Another reason is the available workforce, specifically created by the Nevada System of Higher Education. Thursday's startup fair brought students from the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College together with Northern Nevada’s startup community. The startups being created in Nevada need the best possible team in place to be successful.

As Capstak Co-founder and President, Heather Goldman, said, “It’s great to see Reno’s talent pool continually exceed our expectations.”

This event also highlighted the ties between commercial real estate and the startup world. Whether it’s a startup’s need for flexible office space, or companies like Instally, an on-demand parking app that literally "finds" you a parking space, creating opportunities for the industry to rethink how they create parking space.  Another example of a company that will influence commercial real estate is Flirtey, the premier independent drone delivery service. As drone delivery becomes more successful, it will spur the need for more small-scale urban warehouse space.

At Capstak, we hope to impact both sides of commercial real estate’s relationship to startups. We intend to create transparency and efficiency in commercial real estate that spurs growth across the startup community, while also providing information for the commercial real estate industry to grow and adapt to new technologies as they advance our industry.

On behalf of the entire Capstak team, we would like to thank EDAWN for putting on this great event, and allowing each startup to advance their own business and the entire community.
